Thailand is a country located in the center of mainland Southeast Asia. Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, is the economic center of Thailand. Bangkok is also the most populous city in Thailand and one of the world's top tourist attractions. Bangkok's well-known sights are the Grand Palace and major Buddhist temples, including Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun. Phuket, Thailand's largest island, was once one of the major trading routes between India and China and was never colonized by a European power. It formerly derived its wealth from tin and rubber and now from tourism. There are several surrounding beaches to explore as well as nightlife and opportunities for shopping.
